Irish Garden Fairy Cocktail Potion

Get your spring festival on with these garden-fresh mint and cream cocktails. Perfect for Ostara or Beltane!

Poking their tender leaves from the moist spring soil, mint is among the first herbs to appear in your magical garden.

The delicate, earliest leaves of garden herbs are the best!  So, make good use of them—-and your best cut of high-quality chocolate—with this recipe for Irish Garden Fairy cocktails.

Magical Correspondences

We chose the ingredients in this cocktail potion for their association with springtime magic, faeries, hope, inspiration, and new beginnings.  Here’s a rundown of their magical meanings:

Chocolate

The rich, decadent texture of chocolate corresponds in magic to abundance, altered states of consciousness, and the earthiness of human pleasure.

We add it to this cocktail to symbolize the Element of Earth and the fresh, rich soil of early spring, which is the medium from which new beginnings spring forth.

Mint

Perhaps the freshest of all fresh garden herbs, the cool, crisp flavor of mint acts as a cleansing agent to the mind and spirit.

Just as we deep clean closets and drawers this season, it’s important to clear our minds and spirits from the clutter of old ideas and energies that no longer serve us.

Add it to this cocktail as a symbol of clear thoughts and fresh energy.

Cream

The richness of cream takes center stage during Imbolc, but milk and cream are symbols of purity, newness and fresh beginnings, as well as the nourishing energy of our maternal influences.

Whiskey

Use whiskey as a traditional libation, or to ward off icky vibes still clinging to your life, your home or your creative pursuits as you move forward into the springtime refreshed and rejuvenated with a new perspective.

Ingredients

-1/4 Cup Melted Dark Chocolate

-1/2 Cup Coconut Cream (or any cream you prefer)

-2 Ounces of High-Quality Whiskey

-2 Tablespoons Maple Syrup or Honey

-3/4 Cup Fresh Mint Leaves

-1/2 Ounce Shaved Chocolate Sprinkles (for garnish)

Step 1

Whisk together chocolate and coconut cream over low heat.  Add honey and blend until well combined.

Step 2

In a cocktail shaker, pour whiskey over mint leaves and muddle with the end of a honey drizzler or the back of a bent spoon.

Step 3

Pour the cream/chocolate/honey mixture into the cocktail shaker with the whiskey and mint.  Shake until well-combined.

Step 4

Pour over ice and garnish with fresh mint leaves and chocolate shavings.

Serve immediately and enjoy!  Happy spring!
